His \u003cb\u003eMilitary Medal\u003c\/b\u003e was awarded for conspicuous bravery at \u003cb\u003eLouverval, France, on 15\/16 April 1917\u003c\/b\u003e, where he carried messages from exposed picquet posts to Company Headquarters through a fire-swept zone, and on return journeys carried ammunition forward, helping the post hold out against the enemy.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;\"\u003eOnly weeks later, on \u003cb\u003e6 May 1917\u003c\/b\u003e, Slavin was \u003cb\u003ekilled in action near Bullecourt \/ Noreuil\u003c\/b\u003e during heavy German attacks on the 11th Battalion’s line.
