Single: Arny of India medal 1803-26 with short hyphen, one clasp “POONA’ of which there were only 75 issued. Unfortunately, it is name erased but still represents an extremely scarce medal suitable for a type collector as a representation at a fraction of the price.

Only a detachment of the Regiment, 6 Officers and 225 men, made up of Sir George Cathcart’s Honour Guard and two companies of the Advance Party, were present at the Battle of the Alma on 20 September 1854, and the subsequent actions at Balaklava and Inkermann.

Crimea 1854-56, 1 clasp, Sebastopol (P. Thompson. 71st Regt.) officially impressed naming; Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Central India (Peter Thompson, 71st Highd. L.I.); India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Umbeyla (3473. P. Thompson. H.M.s 71st Regt.); Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (3473 P Thompson 71st Regt.); Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue (No. 3473 Peter Thompson 71 Hd Lt. Infy) last plugged with contemporary clip and ring suspension, mounted for display.
Peter Thompson was born in Preston Pans, Scotland, in 1840. He was a Miner prior to attesting for the 71st Regiment at Edinburgh, in May 1852. He served with the Regiment during the Crimean campaign, and in India, and was discharged 24 June 1873, having served 21 years and 41 days with the Colours.
