Private Cyril Edward Francis Smith, a dairy hand from Welshpool, WA, enlisted as a general reinforcement on 2 Jul 1941 posted to the 2/32^ND AIF.

An original member of ‘D’ Company, he fought at Tobruk, the capture of ‘Trig 22’ and during the subsequent German armoured counter-attack at El Alamein. On the 1^st November 1942 when the 24th Brigade relieved the 26th Brigade at ‘the saucer’, Private Smith was killed from German tank machine gun fire during the heaviest fighting

Private Cyril Edward Francis Smith is buried in El Alamein War Cemetery, Egypt. †
