An extremely rare 1855 Pattern Shako to the 40th Foot. Actual Shako is true to pattern with front and back peaks with gorgon’s head at the back for ventilation. Officers lining in good condition but some separation from the complete leather sweat band. Complete with unbroken chin strap and worsted ball minus its holder. Heavy loss of knap to sides of shell. The two gold bands suggest rank of Colonel or Lt. Colonel. Helmet plate appears original to the helmet. The stand out feature of this shako is the AUSTRALIAN MADE (probably STOKES) Helmet plate making it one of the earliest badges made in the colony. This plate is acknowledged among the advanced collectors in Australia and one was included on an old Stokes pattern board sold a number of years ago. I am reluctant to clean this badge which shows some gilt particularly to the reverse suggesting Officers pattern which is in keeping with the helmet.
The 40th Foot served a second time in Australia in 1852 and in October 1854 quelled an uprising at Eureka Stockade going on to serve in New Zealand 1860 to 1866 prior to the introduction of the 1869 Shako. The lack of motto and garter strap may indicate a late 1844 interim Officers Star shape plate prior to the issue of the 1855 shako and simply carried over.

An extremely rare and unusual 1796 Heavy Cavalry Full dress Sword by Irish maker J. Read maker 8 College Green Dublin in cartouche on top scabbard mount. Apart from decorative stirrup hilt the sword is true to pattern except for the scabbard which is very fancy. Top scabbard ring appears to be period removed possibly to allow easier vertical hanging. Top mount has engraved crown over Prince of Wales plumes and there are various other motives on the scabbard mounts. The scabbard has reasonable repairs due to the age old problem of people withdrawing the blade from the horizontal.

An extremely rare Australian White cloth helmet attributed to (Lt. Colonel) Sir Frederick Thomas Sargood of the State of Victoria Local Forces circa 1875. Six panel body with an unusual four large pleat puggaree. Good leather sweatband with a good silk attachment liner. Great maker’s label "made in England for A.BOWLEY & Co, Melbourne", leaving no doubt as to the Australian provenance. Complete with named carry tin.
Note: Major F.T. Sargood entered the Volunteer Force in 1859 finally attaining the rank of Lieut. Colonel. He was elected to the Victorian Legislative Council as the member for South Yarra in 1874. In 1883 he was Minister for Defence and received the CMG in 1884. He was knighted KCMG in 1890. In 1901 was elected member of the Commonwealth Senate and died 1903. This is an exceptionally rare helmet with the rank of Major on the carry tin indicating a very early helmet.

An extremely rare Saxon Lion top helmet stand/fitting on which the Lion is attached. When Wilkinson sword closed down, a number of moulds, dies and oddments were sold off online. We were fortunate in purchasing two of these fittings and one can’t help but speculate what Wilkinson were doing with them or if the were contracted to make the helmets at some stage. This one is numbered 69. It is very well made and no doubt impossible to find and guaranteed original as described.

An extremely rare West Australian Colt Navy 1851 Flap Holster marked WD Broad Arrow. This holster is one of 24 ordered by the WA government in 1859 and purchased in an Antique store in North Fremantle 35 years ago ex a Government Store sale. It has a striking resemblance to the London purchase by the Canadian Militia which also has the stud located on the flap as opposed to the body of the case. All stitching is sound and intact, and the plug is present. The black lacquer is mottled as brown wrapping paper was stuck to it. This is a one-off opportunity to procure an iconic Colt accoutrement mentioned on the original invoice to the WA Government.

An extremely scarce Boer War Pattern 1888 six pocket Bandolier. Australian made and marked with provenance. This Bandolier belonged to 585 Oswald Pentry Gayer who joined the Australian Commonwealth Horse on the 9.1.1902. 3 pouches are marked with 615 on the flap. Tongue Has A C over 615 plus maker Herbert Carter & Co., Melbourne. These Bandoliers are becoming extremely difficult to obtain particularly in good condition with no flaps missing or torn.

AN IMPERIAL GERMAN ARTILLERY OFFICERS PICKELHAUBE CIRCA 1900 A very sound leather skull with excellent lacquer. Ball top secured by four stars complete with original nuts and washers. Unusual and Original to helmet is the plate with FWR centre (Friedrich Wilhelm Rex). Good unbroken chin scales complete with cockades. Liner in particularly good condition with no damage.

An outstanding WW1 Austrian/German M18 camouflage Steel helmet. Typical 3 colour camouflage with black dividing lines. The rarity of this helmet is the overpainting of white squares with a red cross. The original three-pad leather liner is in reasonable condition with all eyelets present. One pad is still stuffed with another leaking contents. A couple of what appears to be burn marks to leather but does not detract.

An ultra rare Mounted Cadets set of badges 1900 to 1912 period. Cossum 106. Comprising Bullion patch (showing wear), a near mint enamel Hat badge by Stokes and a single collar.
What makes these particularly interesting is they are attributed to the wearer Pte S. C. Vohr who went on to join the 3rd Light Horse in 1914 for WW1. As a point of interest, my good mate Warwick Cary looked for one of these badges his entire life.

Another example of the 1796 Heavy Cavalry Disc Hilt sword. No real distinguishing marks to the sword other than a proof mark which I believe to be the crown over 4. The scabbard is stamped 8 over F41. The disc has not been cut down and both langets are present. The point of the blade has been converted from hatchet to point which some say could indicate Waterloo service.
Other than a few small dings to the scabbard and some pitting the sword is in good condition and rare. SOLD
